Member at Large – As Member-at-Large, I manage a 50/50 drawing at all club meetings and club sponsored cruises. The club donates the proceeds to local charities.  This helps fulfill part of the mission of the club and last year amounted to approximately $850. Additionally, I serve as a point of contact for all club members wishing to purchase club logoed items, especially apparel. We deal with a small local company based in New Castle named “Dreamgraphics” that produces these items for us. The volume of orders processed is 12-15 annually.

NCCC Governor-Jan-Feb: Secure NCCC insurance for our events for the current year.  Presently our cruise-in events at Fox Run are the only events needing the insurance certificate.

Attend quarterly Eastern Region NCCC Governor’s meetings if possible.  Currently held in March, May, September, and December at the Grantsville Holiday Inn.

Schedule any sanctioned events on the NCCC calendar.  Presently we don’t have any sanctioned events so I donate our sanctions to the Eastern Region for ER events including the May Governor’s meeting Car Show in May.

Oct-Nov: Enter CCND members into the NCCC Membership Database.  Need to maintain a minimum of 51% of our members as NCCC members.  Obtain applications for first time NCCC members who are added to the Database.

Publicize any ER sanctioned events which our members may be interested in during the year.

Plans include adding a section to highlight a club member every month. Editor emails President the newsletter to distribute to club members.

Social Chair– As Social Chair, I try to mix up the restaurants throughout the year by price, location, and variety of food. I also mix up the days we go so that if people have a commitment for a particular day, they won’t miss all our meals and events. I also require that the restaurants allow us to have checks by couple and ordering off the main menu. You would be amazed at how many restaurants do not allow us to do these 2 things and miss out on our business. I also try to pick locations especially in the nicer weather months that have plenty of parking for our Corvettes, though this is not always possible.

We started the year off by cancelling our January Annual Banquet because of Covid and couldn’t resume activities until April. We started off by going to McKenzie Brew House in Chaddsford, PA. We then went to Ted Montana’s Grill in the Christiana Fashion Center. June brought us to Maryland to Schaefer’s Canal House, a club favorite located in Chesapeake City, MD.  The next two outings allowed us to enjoy different local ethnic restaurants in Café Valentina and La Tonalteca.

In September, we had our Annual Picnic at Lums Pond, and we also went to Maryland to dine at 98 Cannon Riverfront Grille located in Chestertown, MD. In October we ventured to Avondale, PA for an evening at Hilltop Crab House Restaurant & Bar in Toughkenamon, PA. November brought us to Anthony’s Coal Fired Grill on Limestone Road in Wilmington. We ended up the year with a dinner at Rice.

Our club also meets at RT 40 Diner on the first and third Thursday for breakfast which is another opportunity to see everyone.

During the warmer months we travel to different Ice Cream shops as a group to enjoy and socialize.

As you can see, we went to a variety of cuisines to satisfy everyone at least some of the time. These outings give us the opportunity for our club members to get together at least once a month. I plan on scheduling monthly meals as well as activities for 2022

Show Chair– the duties of the Show Chairman consist of Mapping out the date for the following years Cruises. Applying for the approval of the dates from the Host, acquiring the recommended Insurance certificate and submitting to host. The day of the cruise arriving one hour before start and set up our music, table, and tent, and other applicable equipment. Make sure all participants remain in an orderly fashion. At the end break everything down, being one of the last to leave making sure no garbage is left behind. To run any Car Shows either being requested by other organizations or by the Club and acquire proper paperwork. Give a report for the month at the meetings.

Business Manager- Help promote the Club by investigating possible methods and locations to describe the purpose of the Club and the benefits of becoming a member; Represent the Club and act as a liaison between it and existing and potential sponsors.

Club Historian (Appointed Position)-The position of Club Historian was originated in 2011 and I was appointed as the Club Historian since I was one of the longest-time members (notice I didn’t say “oldest”).  It has always been an appointed position, rather than an officer position.

Since becoming Historian, I have tried to get as complete a set of Club Newsletters as possible.  We have asked all of our older members as well as previous members that we could reach to donate whatever older newsletters they had to the club.  We have an almost complete set of newsletters except for the years 1982 (only 1), 1983, and 1984 (only Nov and Dec).  Although we are not sure, it is likely that we did not have a newsletter editor during some or all of those years.  The newsletters tell the history of the club including minutes of the meetings, list of upcoming events, reviews of recent events, the President’s message, Member of the Month articles (generally focusing on new members), charity donations, stories of member’s cars (restorations, repairs, modifications, etc.), lists of officers, etc., etc.

Our newsletters are in digital (pdf) format from 1985 to current day.  Issues for 1973 to 1984 are in paper copy format.  It is my intent to eventually get all of the newsletters in digital format and make them available through our website (or however the club wants to have them available).  In the early 2000’s I did a series of articles on the early years of CCND – 1973 through 1986 – featuring a different year every month.  With the current newsletter editor at the time, we decided that the current membership had little interest in the early years, and we discontinued the articles after 1986.

We have several historical items from previous activities.  We have checkpoint signs, photo albums, old T-shirts, a quilt made by two members, etc.

With the 50th anniversary of the club coming up in 2023, we need to establish plans for the celebration early, probably during 2022.  For the 45th, we planned to invite all previous members to a celebration lunch.  We do have membership lists for a lot of the years.  I put together the total list for the first 20 years of the club which was over 400 members, with another 25 years to go.  Since that did not seem realistic, we decided to only invite the past presidents to the catered lunch at Harvey Smith’s house.  (We had a pretty good turn-out of eleven past presidents.)  I wrote a 45th anniversary article with photos for the NCCC Blue Bars magazine, which was published in the magazine.  (If we want to do this for our 50th, it needs to be done early in the year due to the necessary lead times for the magazine.)  It is good to have an overall photo of the club members with their cars for the article.  Some of the clubs pose the cars and members in a way to spell out “50 years” with or without their Club name.  (If we do a good job, the photo may have a chance for the magazine cover.)  If we want to do this, we will need someone to choose a location and schedule the photo shoot – and photograph it with a ladder or a drone.  (It may make sense to do this along with a Club picnic or other activity.)

With the 50th anniversary coming, I plan to have some articles/photos from the early days of the club in the newsletter this year.

National Corvette Museum (NCM) Ambassador (Appointed Position)– The primary role of the NCM Ambassador is to liaison with NCM on matters that may interest the club members. The NCM Ambassador guidelines at https://www.corvettemuseum.org/ambassadors/ are to guide the club in interfacing with the NCM*. The NCM Ambassador will provide updates at monthly club meetings and provide written updates to the club newsletter as appropriate.

The NCM Ambassador position is approved by the membership and appointedby the President. The NCM Ambassador may attend board meetings and contribute as appropriate.

*NCM membership required.
